One of the best things to love about the Great Lakes Pickling Company pickles is how crisp and crunchy they are compared to processed or canned pickles. Our “Crispy Air Fried Pickles Recipe” takes this delicious attribute one step further by adding that “second crunch” with breading. They’re especially crunchy if you use Panko bread crumbs.
Air fryers are nothing new. The concept of air-frying uses very little fat (compared to deep-frying or even pan-frying) and is a healthier choice for many people.
While this recipe uses dill pickles, it can be adapted to use any pickled vegetable you have created in any one of our six pickling pouch flavors.
We are highlighting some of our tips for air frying pickles below:
- Make sure each pickle is a sufficient thickness or size so that your pickle is the predominate flavor. For a whole pickled cucumber, that would be about ¼” thick disks, erring on the side of even a bit thicker if you choose.
- Pat the pickled vegetables dry a bit before tossing them in the initial step of flouring them to ensure that they will remain crispy once air-fried.
- Air frying at a temperature of 400°F is preferred.
- We prefer a natural spray of olive oil versus the more bland vegetable oil.
- After frying, sprinkling some fine sea salt is a must. Alternatively, you can experiment with another seasoning salt mix you enjoy.
- We love our mustard dip for this recipe but a bottled ranch dressing or honey mustard dressing is a fine alternative.
- These air fried pickles go great as a burger side or even ON a burger with the Spicy Mustard Dip Recipe as your “secret sauce”.
Air-Fried Pickles Recipe
Serving Size: 3 to 4 Snack Size Portions
Ingredients:
- 3 Whole Great Lakes Pickling Company Polish Dill Pickles, cut into 3/8” thick disks
- ½ cup All Purpose Flour
- 1 Egg, Beaten
- ¼ cup Water or Milk
- 2 cups Panko Bread Crumbs (plain)
- As needed Vegetable Spray
Directions:
- Setup the standard breading procedure with three medium to small size bowls. Add flour to one bowl. Add the egg beaten together with the water or milk in the second bowl. Add the plain Panko bread crumbs to the third bowl.
- Dredge each pickle piece first in the flour, (shake off any excess), then into the egg mixture, then coat with the Panko crumbs.
- Place each breaded pickle piece on a plate. Once all are breaded, set your air-fryer to 400°F.
- Spray each side of your pickle pieces lightly with an olive oil spray (or vegetable oil) then place them into the air fryer basket without overlapping. Fry for approximately 10 to 12 minutes or, until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve with our Spicy Mustard Dip recipe below.
